General Information

On this page you may download the Guide For Centro La Milagrosa (Maniapure) Medical Internships. This paper was originally prepared by a team from La Milagrosa Francia Association lead by their Chairman, Mr. Tanguy Levesque, then translated into Spanish by Ms. Carolina Antonini, and later reviewed and adapted by a team from Fundación Proyecto Maniapure. We believe this has been an invaluable contribution from such association of French volunteers and close friends that offers a general approach to this interesting internship program and enables a more pleasant and productive participation.

Requirements for Applicants

  1. Eligibility as Intern: depends on the university the applicant is enrolled in and on the physician by then working at the Center.
  2. Age: no less than 20 years of age.
  3. Internship Term: University internships usually range from 10 to 22 weeks. As to volunteer internships, duration shall be agreed between the Foundation and each volunteer. A term of no less than 3-month term is recommended as it enables volunteer to adjust and actually contribute to project progress and a 1-year term is preferred for volunteer to make a true impact on the area.
  4. Internship Funding: Internship and volunteering is self- funded. Operation of Centro La Milagrosa is mainly funded by donations and allocates as many funds as possible to local projects. Therefore, there are no funds available for domestic or foreign internships or volunteer work. In fact, self-funding translates into a greater commitment to goal achieving. Notwithstanding, specific agreements have been reached with certain domestic universities whereby an allowance, which amount may differ among agreements, is provided by the relevant university to its interns.

It is extremely important that you understand the culture, traditions, customs, and beliefs of the communities you are about to be introduced to and to keep in mind that the greatest benefit of it all will be to learn from them and share with them everything you know. It is a give-and-take experience that will nourish local population and will bring them one step closer to what we call sustainable production development.

The goal is to keep current projects on-going.

At Centro La Milagrosa you will meet a nurse, a dental hygienist, a manager, a cook, a security guard, and a janitor, all born and raised in the area who have received proper training and perform with enthusiasm and commitment. You will also meet teachers, rural bank workers, summer camp counselors, and other people from the area strongly interested in developing the community you will become part of. Hence the relevance of your adjustment and integration thereto to help them further develop.

It is important that interns and volunteers contact Centro La Milagrosa in advance of arrival. Arrivals on days other than weekends and holidays are preferred to offer you a proper greeting.
